Current News

August was a very successful month for HPoB. At our dining out we had 46 people in attendance. With the return of our monthly potlucks, we had 15 people show up to the first one. Please join us at our next potluck, see below for more info (also see the attached flyer).

Upcoming Events

Vegan Potluck

On September 9th we will hold our monthly vegan potluck at Holmes Regional Hospital Auditorium in Melbourne. We should all give Dawn and Holmes Regional Hospital our thanks for arranging a convenient location for our potlucks. The potlucks will be held on the 2nd Sunday of each month. The Auditorium has been reserved from 5:30 to 8:00 pm. A map is attached to this email (thanks to John Y.). Our potlucks are relaxed, fun events that offer a delicious demonstration of the possibilities and appeal of a plant-based diet. They create a healthy sense of community and give like-minded individuals in the area a chance to meet one another. Bring your best vegan dishes, casseroles, salads and desserts to share for this potluck. Please bring enough food for your family and a little bit more. Please no meat, fish, dairy, eggs, Jell-O, marshmallows or honey. Some folks like to bring their own dishes and utensils. Please label your food with a copy of the recipe, this helps people with allergies to know if they can sample your dish. All ages are welcome.

Please print the attached flyer and post on your favorite bulletin board.

Susie Fricker or John Cielukowski would be happy to deliver an entertaining 30 minute presentation with PowerPoint slides. Find out what your diet is doing to your health and the health of the planet.  If interested please contact Eric by email.

What if we didn’t have members?

What would we do if no one renewed their membership or became a new member of HPoB? Without your membership dollars we could probably continue with the Dining Night Out’s but we certainly couldn’t pay the travel of some of our guest speakers. The Big events like the Turkey-free Thanksgiving Dinner and the Independence from Meat picnic would be canceled (it costs us to rent the pavilions and we purchase some of the food). And we couldn’t even think about restarting out potluck dinners. So please do support our great events and join as a paid member of Healthy Planet.

Our Mission

We inspire people to shift towards a plant-centered diet to improve their health, to encourage compassion for animals, and to achieve a sustainable environment.

Our group celebrates diversity. Please join us at one of our events, bring the family, bring a friend.

From the local Raw Food Group

Mark your calendar for September 18 when I will be doing a raw
gourmet Asian dinner class at Wild Oats( which by then will actually
be Whole Foods). I have collected and tried some incredibly
delicious recipes that I will be preparing for that class, including:
Thai soup, sushi(looks like rice in it!), stir not- fried- not-rice,
Asian salad, fortune(raw encouragement) cookies , and I forget the
other item, I know there were 6, but am not home to go see!! But it
is something good, I assure you! I will send out more information on
this class as it gets closer to that time. I will also be teaching
about VB's 12 steps to going raw (after having watched the DVD and
read the book)

Have a great and healthy week!! I hope to see you at one of
these functions!!
