Dining Out At The Health Station Good Morning, At this point, as far as I know, the Dining Out at The Health Station, Indialantic, on Saturday, May 6th, is still on. About 15 people responded to my previous email. I have received additional information from The Health Station but not all of the information that we want. Here is what I know so far: Since they are not normally open on Saturday night, we will need 25 people to attend. The price is $25. That includes beverage, appetizer, the meal, dessert, tax and tip. Let me know if you are willing to commit with just that much information. If you shop at THS, please ask them to respond to me with the menu, etc. I have called several times and have emailed them. I will pass additional info on to you ASAP. Thanks for your patience. Changing the Dream Symposium From Dr. Ross McCluney: Dear Friend, Relative, or Colleague, I'm sending this to my personal distribution list of people in Florida and the southeastern U.S. It is an announcement of a day-long Symposium I am hosting at the Florida Solar Energy Center Sunday 11 June 2006. It is a particularly well-prepared program described in the announcement below. I hope you can attend and/or that you will help spread the word to others you think might be interested in attending. There is a brief announcement text at the bottom of this message and a flyer which you can send to others is attached. I often give slide presentations on the environmental crisis and the likely consequences of peak oil and global warming.(For a pair of impressive new slide shows on these topics, visit http://www.futureofhumanity.org/SlideShows/ and click on the slide shows by Peter Lloyd and Philip Fairey). With only an hour or so for my talks , there is insufficient time to discuss with any depth solution strategies or personal actions we can take to protect ourselves (and our children and grandchildren) from the worst consequences. A new Symposium has been developed that addresses these needs in a very professional way in a day-long interactive program that I think is just what is needed. I have convinced the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC) to sponsor this new Symposium at its facilities in Cocoa and I will be hosting the event. The program was developed by the Pachamama Alliance, an international organization headquartered in San Francisco. It will be presented at FSEC Sunday 11 June by two facilitators flying in from New Jersey. A series of these Symposiums has been presented in other parts of the country but this will be the first in the southeastern U.S. I am hoping that you and/or any organizations to which you belong can help spread the word about this unique opportunity. Below is suggested text for an announcement of the June Symposium, all or portions of which may be placed in any newsletters you might have input to and announced at an upcoming meeting of an appropriate organization to which you might belong, including religious organizations. Please consult the web site http://www.pachamama.org/ for more information about the program and the organization that put it together. Ross ----------------------- Announcement text: Republican or Democrat, liberal or conservative, we all have one thing in common -- survival of the human species with a high quality of life! For ourselves, our children, and all who come after them. But what are we to do? We're just average, family-based, tax-paying Americans who already give time and money to many causes. One answer is to take time to more fully understand the planetary challenges facing us all — In a way that doesn't put us to sleep, overwhelm us with technicalities, or scare the bejabbers out of us. Please join us for our Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream Symposium, sponsored by the Florida Solar Energy Center and produced by the Pachamama Alliance, Sunday 11 June 2006, 10 AM – 6:00 PM. March Meeting Minutes HEALTHY PLANET OF BREVARD MEETING MINUTES March 28, 2006 The core group of the Healthy Planet of Brevard met at the Satellite Beach Library, on March 28th, 2006, at 7:30 p.m. In attendance were Eric Fricker, Vicki Murfin, Barbara Bingnear, Judy McCluney, John Cielukowski, Marcie Katz and Claris Withrow. Claris read the minutes of the last meeting. Treasurer’s report - Judy reported that the bank balance is $1,960.29. Membership - Marcie reported that she had sent out the revised membership application to reflect the corrected mission statement to the core members via a pdf file. At the Farmer Brown event, there were three new members and two renewals for a total of $120. She will continue to process renewals and coordinate monies collected with Judy. She did not have an updated roster prepared as yet. .Events - The local Earth Day celebration has been changed to June 10th at Lori Wilson Park in Cocoa Beach. HPoB will have an information table there. We will also have a table set up at the celebration at the Enchanted Forest on April 22nd. Dining Out - Barbara reported that she had spoken with the owner of the Pizza Gallery and he said they have too much business on a Saturday night and wasn’t interested in working with us for a dining out. HPoB had to pay for three no-shows at the China Garden. Much discussion was held as to how to handle this problem. Marcie suggested that an e-mail be sent out to the people who make reservations and then don’t show up for the dinner explaining to them that we have to pay for the dinners. John said that he would do this. John will talk with Carla Wilson of ARF in Orlando to see how they handle no-shows at their dinners. Marcie also suggested that the next day after a dining out, an e-mail be sent to the no-shows stating "sorry we missed you. Please send check for $ as we had to pay for your meal." Discussion was held as to the date for our Independence Picnic. June 25, Sunday, was agreed upon to be held at Kelly Park West on Merritt Island. However, parking can be a problem there so it was agreed that Claris would look into reserving a pavilion at Wickham Park in Melbourne. It was suggested that George Eisman might be brought in for a speaking event in May or June or possibly in the fall, September or October. Another suggestion was Dr Greger possibly in October. John has been too busy to prepare the HPoB brochure so did not have it to review. Eric made a motion that we send a $25 fruit basket to Leslie Brindley for being a gracious host to Harold Brown for two nights. Motion passed. Vicki will take care of ordering this. Next meeting will be held on April 25th at the Satellite Beach Library. Meeting adjourned at 8:40 p.m. Claris Withrow, Secretary Complete Idiot's Guide to Vegan Living Greetings friends, I just wanted to let you know that my husband Ray Sammartano and I have written the "Complete Idiot's Guide to Vegan Living," which just hit the bookstores last week. This marks the very first time that any of the popular how-to series of books (like the "For Dummies" or the "Everything" series) have included one on veganism. I hope that this is a good sign that mainstream publishers are beginning to take notice that more and more people are deciding to embrace a cruelty-free lifestyle! "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Vegan Living" covers all aspects of being and living vegan, and is chock full of information designed to make transitioning into and living a vegan lifestyle as easy as possible. Also included are 50 of my vegan recipes, from breakfast to dessert, and loads of information designed to help readers make the most out of their vegan culinary efforts. There's even a whole chapter devoted entirely to vegan baking substitutions! John Robbins wrote a wonderful foreword to the book, and this was/is a great thrill for Ray and me. His "Diet for a New America" and "The Food Revolution" continue to be great influences on our lives and our work, and he has probably done more to get the word out about the need for a global move toward a plant-based diet than any other author today. "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Vegan Living" is on sale right now at Borders and other bookstores, and online at Amazon.com. If you visit my site at http://www.veganchef.com and click on the apple-shaped "books" button, you will be just a click away from the Amazon page for the book, where you can order a copy or just learn a little more about the book. There's still time to order the book and have it arrive in time for the holidays! Thanks for reading, and I hope that you'll check the book out. We poured our hearts as well as our many years of vegan experience into it, and we're pleased with the results. We think and hope that you will be, too. Anything you can do to help spread the word about this book will be much appreciated! Peas and love, Beverly Lynn Bennett The Vegan Chef http://www.veganchef.com "Being a vegan is easy to do when you know how, and Beverly and Ray are wonderful guides to learning." - John Robbins, author of "Diet for a New America" and "The Food Revolution." | |
