We inspire people to shift towards a plant-centered diet to improve their health, to encourage compassion for animals, and to achieve a sustainable environment.
We visit local restaurants for our vegan "Dining Out" events. We bring in speakers, medical doctors and animal advocates, for inspiring health related talks.

HPoB Meeting Minutes for March
HEALTHY PLANET OF BREVARD MEETING MINUTES
March 23, 2005

The core group of the Healthy Planet of Brevard met at the home of Eric Fricker in Cocoa Beach, on March 23, 2005, at 7:30 p.m. In attendance were Judy McCluney, John Cielukowski, Eric Fricker, Vicki Murfin, Barbara Bingnear and Claris Withrow. Also in attendance were Eric’s wife, Susie, and Marcie Katz, HPoB’s new Tabling and College Outreach Coordinator.

Claris read the minutes of the last meeting.

Judy gave the treasurer’s report. She had made a deposit of $425 which was a combination of membership fees, sale of books and donations. This brought the account balance to $1,181.47. However $350 of that is obligated: $200 for the Basic Emergency Fund, $50 for the Annual Report Filing and $100 to set aside for the 501c3 application. Judy reimbursed Barbara for the HPoB bumper stickers which cost $45.

Events - Vicki showed a book that she was reading, At Hell’s Gate, written by Claude Anshin Thomas, who is a vegetarian Buddhist Monk. She was so impressed with the book and asked the group their opinion of bringing the author in for a talk. It was agreed that she should contact him. Howard Lyman will be in Brevard County in October and Judy suggested that we contact Brevard Community College to see if they would be agreeable to co-sponsor him with HPoB and maybe provide an auditorium. Barbara said that she would check with Florida Tech about using Gleason Auditorium. Eric suggested bringing in Ingrid Newkirk from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals for an event sometime. John suggested that we set a date for the annual summer picnic which is usually held around the 4th of July time frame. The date of Sunday, June 26th, was decided upon. Rose Tucci had indicated to Barbara that she would be interested in working on the picnic committee so Barbara will check with her to see if she would work with John and Vicki. John will check on the availability of Suntree Rotary Park on that date with the Lori Wilson Park being second choice.

Membership - Eric reported that Dan is working the membership cards and will be sending them to him by way of U.S. Mail.

Dining Out - Barbara reported that there are 16 people signed up to attend the dining out at the China Garden Restaurant on Merritt Island on March 26th, at 5:30 p.m. There will be no dining out planned for the month of April. She reported that the Sublime Restaurant in Ft Lauderdale only takes groups on Sunday night. Taking a bus down there was scrapped because of the cost.

Eric said if anyone had an article that they would like to get into the newsletter to get it to him by the first of April. John volunteered to write about why he became a vegetarian for the next newsletter.

Eric stated that this was an "inventory meeting" as he had removed everything belonging to the organization from the storeroom at the Wellness Center in Cape Canaveral. The room had been loaned to us for several years to use for storage by the Wellness Center but was now needed for an office space. So at the close of the meeting we went through all the boxes and decided what to keep and what to discard. The things we kept were divided up amongst the core group to store in garages, under beds, etc., at the respective homes.

Eric officially welcomed Marcie Katz to the core group.

Delicious homemade vegan oatmeal cookies and green tea were served by hostess, Susie.

Next meeting will be held on April 27th at the Satellite Beach Library at 7:30 p.m.

Meeting adjourned at 8:50 p.m.

They say that if you ask, you will receive. We asked for a Tabling Coordinator to help us out in the last newsletter. Marcie Katz has answered the call and will be representing HPoB at area events. Thank you Marcie, the core group is very excited to have you on board. Tabling is a great way to get our message of compassion and health out to the community. If you would like to help Marcie, please let me know. Tabling can also be a nice way to meet new people and is great for your self-esteem knowing that you are helping others in your community.
