Celebrate Earth Day at Enchanted Forest
Celebrate Earth Day with us at the Enchanted Forest Sanctuary in Titusville this Saturday between 9am and 3pm. Approximately 35 environmental organizations will be presenting information to the public and Healthy Planet of Brevard is pleased to be one of the participants. We are looking for volunteers who would be willing to spend an hour at our table handing out literature, and the rest of the day you can explore the Sanctuary with all of its interesting features. A great family outing for the day.
For those who have never visited Enchanted Forest you are in for a treat. With approximately 400 acres of typical Florida habitat, and an unusually large stand of hardwood trees, this recently improved Sanctuary has many interesting trails and exhibits for you to explore. HEALTHY PLANET of BREVARD
March 24, 2004
The core group of the Healthy Planet of Brevard met at the Satellite Beach Library on March 24, 2004, at 7:15 p.m. In attendance were Judy McCluney, Dan Robinson, Rose Forbes and Claris Withrow.
Treasurer Judy then read her report. Our current balance is $716. She stated that she is working on the tax report. It is due in May.
The south Brevard pot luck was held in West Melbourne on March 14. There were 10 people in attendance.
Dan Robinson - membership - reported that HPoB now has 38 members. There was only one response to the e-mail membership letters that went out so Dan made the motion that we forego sending out the letters by U.S. mail as it would be very expensive. Claris seconded and motion carried.
In Barbara Bingnear's absence, Dan reported that the Dining Out at Taste of Goa was very successful. There were 36 people there and the food was very good. Dan wore his name tag from the Great American Meatout held earlier in the day and several people commented that they thought name tags for the dining outs would be nice. Discussion followed and Rose moved that HPoB buy the holders for members. Dan seconded. Motion carried. Since Barbara would have a list of
attendees, she would print out names to be distributed at the dining out. Any guests who are not members of HPoB would be given handwritten name tags. Dan will look into purchasing the holders.
For Earth Day, it was decided that HPoB will have a table with free literature at the annual event held at The Enchanted Forest in Titusville on April 17th. Setup time is 8:30 and the gates open to the public at 9:00. Two tables and 4 chairs will be provided.
Community Outreach - Dan suggested that we get involved with other organizations that put on health fairs, etc., and have information tables at their events. An outreach officer is needed to coordinate this. He also thought it would be good to canvass members to see what activities they'd like to get involved in.
Judy presented an idea of asking vendors if we could promote their products. They would provide the product and we would promote it to the public. We would be promoting not only the product but HPoB as well.
Dan suggested going to Yahoo Groups for our way of communicating rather than the blog. The Yahoo Group has more capabilities to do different things than the blog. We can have a web chat if and when something comes up that needs action or attention between regularly scheduled meetings.
There was a discussion of making some adjustments in the management of Communications for HPoB and also the possibility of Cynthia Krueger being the Animal Advocate. This will be discussed at a later meeting after the affected parties have been contacted.
Fund-raising - Two suggestions were presented for fund raisers. One was a spaghetti dinner and the other an ice cream social.
The north Brevard potluck will be held Sunday evening, March 28th at the Cape Canaveral Hospital at 5:45. Dan suggested that we not keep the requirement of bringing a strictly vegan dish. He thought it would be good to open it to people who are not strict vegetarians. The only requirement being that they bring a list of ingredients in their food.
The next meeting will be held at Satellite Beach Library on April 28th at 7:15 p.m.
Meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
