North County February Potluck
This month's north county potluck was held on Sunday February 22nd at Cape Canaveral Hospital. Six folks were in attendance with four members and two guests. One guest learned about the potluck from the hospital and some vegetarian friends. The other guest learned about us from a flyer posted at Sunseed Food Coop.

Judy and Bill acted as hosts, providing cutlery and plates for our guests and words of inspiration. Claris provided access to the room in Eric's absence. Dan delivered his internal bake sale items to Judy and Bill garnering the HPoB treasury a $10 donation.

Although the group was small, we had a delightful meal. Claris brought a delicious vegan lasagna based on a Harvest Cafe recipe. Dan provided full size Bo Bia raw vegan vegetable rolls based on a special Asian Gourmet recipe. Judy and Bill brought a wonderful walnut based salad. One of our guests furnished us with dessert of brownies and a cranberry cake and the other guest brought a very tasty mixed veggie salad with avocado.

We are hopeful that our guests will make an effort to return on March 28th and will be able to share a larger sampling of what we have to offer.

Thanks to those who were able to attend and we look forward to our next potluck in south county on March 14th.

Great American Meat Out - March 20th
The Great American Meat Out is observed in the U.S. and other countries around the world every year on March 20th. Its purpose is to encourage people to refrain from eating meat for one day with the idea being that possibly they will find that it is not so difficult to do.

The Healthy Planet of Brevard organization will have information tables set up at libraries in Titusville (Rick Kump, veganrick@aol.com), Melbourne (Barbara Bingnear, goveg@cfl.rr.com) and Cocoa Beach (Vicki Murfin, vgordanier@aol.com, or Claris Withrow, claris_ann@yahoo.com). If you are interested in helping, volunteers are needed at all locations to hand out information and talk with people about the advantages of the vegetarian lifestyle. Please make the contact via e-mail if you are able to help. Even an hour of your time would be appreciated. At the Cocoa Beach tabling, there will be a cooking demonstration at noon and also food sampling. If you don't have time to volunteer, be sure to stop by.

Correction to the Minutes of the February Meeting
The February 25th Core Meeting scheduled at the Satellite Beach Library will instead be held March 3rd at the Melbourne Library. The March 24th meeting and all those to follow will be at the Satellite Beach Library.

Minutes for Leadership Meeting of February 4, 2004
HEALTHY PLANET of BREVARD
February 4, 2004

The core group of the Healthy Planet of Brevard met at the Melbourne Library on February 4, 2004, at 7:30 p.m. In attendance were Eric Fricker, John Ceilukowski, Judy McCluney, Barbara Bingnear, Dan Robinson, Rose Forbes, Megan Stolen and Claris Withrow.

The meeting opened with Claris reading the minutes of the January meeting. There was one correction to the minutes. That being that Eric Fricker will coordinate the north Brevard pot lucks and Rose Forbes will coordinate the south Brevard pot lucks.

Treasurer Judy then read her report. Our current balance is $430. There were no disbursements.

Dan Robinson - membership - reported that he has received the list of local EarthSave members from Joe Elliott. He will use that to send mailings and e-mails to try to increase HPoB membership. There was a “core e-mail special meeting” between the regularly scheduled core meetings to provide authorization and approval for funding for the membership drive.

Barbara Bingnear - Dining Out - reported that there are 19 people signed up for the Dining Out at Asian Gourmet on Feb. 14th. The next Dining Out will be held at Taste of Goa on March 20. The Thai Thai restaurant at Lake Washington and Wickham Rd will provide the April Dining Out.

Eric reported that the potluck on Sunday at Cape Canaveral Hospital was poorly attended with only 5 people there. He will get the e-mail list from Gwen Iacona (who is having computer problems) to give to Dan Robinson so that he can send out reminders to try to increase participation. Rose Forbes will put a notice on the Blog about the pot luck to be held this Sunday, the 8th, in south Brevard. It will be at the Unitarian Universalist Church in West Melbourne.

Dan Robinson read and explained the changes that were made in the Operating Agreement. He then made a motion that the Operating Agreement be adopted as read. Eric seconded. The vote was affirmative. The Agreement was then signed by the officers.

John Ceilukoski has made business cards for all the officers and handed them out. They are beautiful and very professional looking. He also suggested that on stationery and hand outs, we keep the logo to 3 ½ inches to keep it uniform and attractive.

In order to find a centrally located place in the county for the core meetings, we have had to change our meeting night to the 4th Wednesday of the month. The next meeting will be February 25th and will be held at the Satellite Beach Public Library.

Eric said because of job requirements, he will have to take temporary leave from his chair duties for 3 months. He then made a motion that Rose Forbes be made co-chair to fill the vacancy and remain in that position when he returns. Motion was seconded by Barbara Bingnear and the vote was favorable.

Megan Stolen reported that she is developing a Space Coast Parent publication for north Brevard as she lives in Port St. John. She will coordinate pot lucks and picnics designed around children to encourage parents to provide healthy meals for their children. Also it will give support to parents who are raising vegetarian and vegan children.

Meeting adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
